The European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) was transposed into Germany law as Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG), with enforcement from 28 June 2025.

BFA (Bundesfachstelle Barrierefreiheit) oversees market surveillance and complaint handling in Germany.

Who must comply

Manufacturers of in-scope products placed on the Germany market.
Importers and distributors with a Germany presence.
Service providers offering covered services (banking, e-commerce, transport, ebooks, audiovisual, e-comms) to Germany consumers.
Micro-enterprises (< 10 employees, < €2 million turnover) are exempt for services only.

Confirm in-scope status under the Germany transposition.
Map your product against EN 301 549 v3.2.1 (WCAG 2.1 AA for web + chapters 5/11/12/13).
Audit and remediate; pair manual review with automated rule scanning.
Publish a Germany-language EAA accessibility statement (Article 13).
